"Hidden Inn of Flavors" Kassen Ryokan Shima Peninsula

Kassen Ryokan is a seven-room inn in the Koshika area of Shima, with the plainspoken atmosphere of an older family-run lodging. The wooden building retains a Showa-era character, but the accommodation is basic: some rooms share wash facilities, and guests should expect function and warmth rather than polished contemporary comfort.

The meal gives the inn its purpose. Morning-caught fish arrives in generous boat platters, joined according to season by Ise lobster, abalone, sea bream, and flounder. Dinner is served in a private room, which gives the seafood time and space even when the setting itself is modest.

Bathing uses an alkaline simple spring from Nansei Sakurayama in the public bath. The bath plays a supporting role beside the seafood dinner. Kassen suits travelers who will forgive dated facilities in exchange for a small-house welcome and a direct encounter with Shima’s catch.
