Chef Matsumoto Tetsuya anchors the kaiseki programme in Hyogo's finest produce: A5 Kobe beef, Ise shrimp, seasonal ingredients arriving in sequence and at correct temperature, one dish at a time in the room.

The museum-like arrangement of seasonal flowers and artworks through the corridors signals aesthetic intent and the adults-only policy enforces the quiet the property promises, though the facility's ageing infrastructure reveals itself in winter — cold hallways, an elevator that does not hold warmth — and the ikyu facility score of 3.88 is an honest accounting of spaces that aspire to wabi without fully achieving its stillness.
