Shunsai no Sho Sakadojo

Shunsai no Sho Sakadojo sits at the foot of Mount Sakado in Minamiuonuma. Japanese rooms are straightforward, while granite and Izu stone give the communal bath a more substantial material presence than the accommodation suggests.

The bath uses Muikamachi hot-spring water and adds a monthly “seasonal fragrance” bath, changing the sensory emphasis through the year. The experience is indoor and managed rather than a landscape bath.

Breakfast is the standout meal: a broad Niigata buffet built around Uonuma Koshihikari, mountain vegetables, mushrooms and local eggs. Dinner plans range from Echigo mochi-pork shabu-shabu to a chef’s seasonal course. Sakadojo suits travellers who value regional breakfast abundance and a practical base for Minamiuonuma.
