Ikkyu stands directly behind Yunohama Beach, and every guest room faces the Sea of Japan. Shoes come off at the entrance, creating a relaxed barefoot flow through the inn, while the sound of the surf and changing light over the water shape the hours before dinner and sunset.
The hot-spring water is used free-flowing in the indoor and open-air baths. These shared baths keep the sea close without turning the property into a large resort complex. Rooms were partly renewed in 2021, but the atmosphere remains that of a small coastal ryokan established in 1943.
Dinner uses local Shonai ingredients and seafood from the surrounding coast. Ikkyu suits travellers who want an uncomplicated beach-and-onsen stay where the view is dependable, the sea is steps away and the evening follows naturally from sunset to bath to a regional meal.
