Iijimakan

Iijimakan stands on a quieter street only a few minutes from Kusatsu’s Yubatake. Its roughly century-old building and tatami rooms feel domestic rather than polished, preserving the atmosphere of a simple hot-spring lodging in the centre of town.

Four indoor baths stay available through the night: separate communal baths plus two private baths that guests can use without booking. Both Yubatake and the rarer Wata-no-Yu sources flow continuously, allowing bath enthusiasts to compare two expressions of Kusatsu’s intensely acidic water under one roof.

Breakfast and dinner are served in the room. The cooking is home-style Gunma fare, with local pork shabu-shabu and an optional Joshu beef sukiyaki plan. Iijimakan rewards travellers who place source variety, private bathing and old-inn character ahead of contemporary comfort.
