Ryokan Sakurai

Ryokan Sakurai occupies a quieter edge of Ikaho, away from the busiest streets around the stone steps. Its rooftop open-air bath looks across Mount Akagi and the Joshu ranges, turning a compact communal pool into a strong scenic experience.

All rooms retain a Japanese tatami layout, with selected categories adding a private open-air bath. Dinner is served in the room for parties of up to four, allowing the handmade Gunma cooking to unfold at a relaxed pace. Joshu beef and regional ingredients give the meal local grounding.

Sakurai is particularly well suited to couples and small groups who want traditional room dining without the formality or size of a grand ryokan. The combination of mountain views, personal meal service and a manageable scale matters more here than an extensive spa circuit.
