Yamadaya's claim on the guide rests on a natural abundance few inns can match: a self-owned sodium chloride source issuing roughly 800 drums of reddish-brown cloudy water each day, enough to run kakenagashi through all six rooms and three distinctly characterful private baths — one carved from a single massive boulder, one evoking a Showa farmhouse in timber and mood, one of cast-iron weight and gravitas. The inn's lobby is dense with antique tansu, a black rotary telephone, and an iron tea kettle that functions as both vessel and aesthetic declaration, the accumulated choosing of an innkeeper who understands that objects carry time.

The 里山の懐石 draws directly from Tsumagoi's highland identity — altitude-grown cabbage, Joshu beef, river fish, finished on a hoe-shaped iron plate in honest reference to the agricultural labour that built this village — regional and sincere rather than architecturally refined. The rotenburo opens onto a rural tableau through which the Agatsuma line still passes, and each season alters the bath's character from cherry blossom pink to summer festival smoke to winter highland silence without any intervention from the inn.
