Tanakake Hinageshikan

Tanakake Hinageshikan stands at the foot of Mount Rishiri, close enough to support both an island holiday and an early start on the mountain. Its position near Oshidomari and the Mount Rishiri trailhead makes it especially useful to hikers and ferry travellers. Its Japanese-style rooms and modest public areas keep the emphasis on place rather than polish.

The large communal bath uses Rishiri Fuji Onsen water, classified as a sodium chloride and bicarbonate spring. Bathing is pleasingly simple, centred on the mineral water and a restorative soak after a day outdoors.

Meals draw on Rishiri’s seasonal produce, with seafood and local kombu central to the island’s table. On clear evenings the inn also offers a guided look at the night sky. It brings together a restorative soak, practical trail support and a sense of Rishiri beyond the port.
