Okui Ryokan (Goto, Narushima)

Okui Ryokan has welcomed travelers on Naru Island since 1950. Its roughly 80-year-old wooden main building contains thirteen Japanese and Japanese-Western rooms, many using shared bathrooms, and preserves the straightforward feeling of an island inn.

The senior okami cooks personally, drawing on fresh Goto seafood and family recipes. That direct relationship between host and kitchen gives dinner more character than polished presentation could.

A private bath uses ordinary heated water; there is no communal bath or natural hot spring. Okui is for travelers drawn to Naru’s remoteness, an old wooden house, and a meal prepared by the family. The simple facilities are part of the experience rather than a hidden compromise.
