Kawakamiya Kasuitei sits within a bamboo grove on the edge of Gero — one of Japan's three great spa towns — its fourteen rooms built in the restrained geometry of Sukiya-style architecture that asks little of itself and offers much. The free-flowing alkaline waters reach the Mikage stone indoor bath and the rocky rotenburo directly from the Gero source, and the dinner menu rotates monthly around Hida beef and the seasonal produce of the mountain interior of Gifu.
