Perched on the Izu Peninsula above Suruga Bay, Futaritowani En has shaped its entire proposition around the private encounter of two: ten named rooms, each opening onto its own rotenburo terrace commanding an unobstructed frame that holds both Mount Fuji and the bay at dusk. The waters of Toi Onsen — a calcium-sodium sulfate-chloride spring with legitimate mineral weight — reach every private bath, and the Ikyu onsen score of 4.86 confirms that guests register the bathing here as a destination in itself, not an amenity.

The kitchen draws with evident honesty from Suruga Bay's seafood and the seasonal produce of the Izu hinterland, earning the highest sub-score on Ikyu (4.80 for meals) and indicating a kitchen that understands its terroir. What the property does not yet carry is the patina of deep tradition: interiors read as contemporary precision rather than earned imperfection, and the presence of bathrobe, sauna, and 岩盤浴 signals a resort sensibility that presses against the ryokan form without quite departing it.

The moment a guest carries home: drawing the private bath at dusk, the sulfate waters warming the skin, Mount Fuji dissolving slowly into the colour of the sea.
