Arimakan

Arimakan is built for guests who prefer to keep much of the ryokan experience private. Both breakfast and dinner are served in the room, allowing the meal to unfold without a restaurant timetable or shared dining hall. The food follows a rural Yamagata kaiseki style, with local wagyu and seasonal ingredients appearing according to plan.

Bathing is unusually varied. Five private baths include a panoramic open-air option on the upper floor, a reclining bath and a limestone-terrace design inspired by Pamukkale. Public baths and selected private baths use free-flowing water from the inn’s three sources, while other baths use filtered circulation.

The combination works particularly well for couples, families and travellers who value privacy over architectural restraint. Arimakan feels playful rather than austere, turning a stay into a circuit of distinct baths followed by meals in the familiar setting of the guest room.
