Shiki Tennen Ryori no Yado Sugigase

Sugigase is an eleven-room inn in Higashiyoshino, with every room looking toward the clear Takami River. The quiet village setting and modest traditional rooms keep the landscape close throughout the stay.

Food provides the year’s rhythm: spring amago and mountain vegetables, wild ayu in summer, mushrooms and other upland ingredients as the seasons turn. The summer ayu course is the clearest signature, expressing the river outside through a complete meal rather than a token local dish.

A large communal bath offers a simple end to the day, but there is no natural hot spring or extensive bathing program. Sugigase is best understood as a seasonal cooking inn. It rewards travelers who value river fish, rural Nara, and the intimacy of a small house over luxury facilities.
