Tatami SuiteDetached Villa

Set on 3,000 tsubo of broadleaf forest and running stream in Oguni-machi — the same mountain country that cradles Kurokawa Onsen — Kotenjin offers three detached villas of Oguni cedar and diatomaceous earth plaster, each served by 24-hour kakenagashi calcium-sulfate water through a private rock bath. The owner couple attends every arrival personally, carries luggage without being asked, and will make dinner reservations at a nearby yakiniku restaurant as a matter of course — a form of care that three rooms make genuinely possible and that has placed this property second in Kyushu on the ikyu review ranking.

The defining absence is the table: no dinner exists on the premises, and breakfast arrives by basket at the villa door — Oguni Jersey milk, locally sourced Meister ham, a seasonal soup — European in form, locally grounded in content, but not a ryokan's meal. What a guest will carry home is a private rotenburo under Japanese maple at midnight with the sound of the river below.
