Amami Onsen Nanten-en

Nanten-en occupies a sukiya-style building designed by Tatsuno Kingo around 1912, now registered as a tangible cultural property. Fourteen rooms look into a three-thousand-tsubo garden where cherry blossom, summer green, autumn leaves, and winter snow reshape the view.

Kaiseki is served in the room by attendants, keeping dinner connected to the architecture and the Yamasaki family’s traditions of tea and flower arrangement. The meal follows the season without overwhelming the house’s quiet atmosphere.

Natural radium spring water supplies the communal baths, and selected rooms include an open-air bath. Nanten-en offers an unusually complete retreat close to Osaka: significant architecture, a mature garden, private dining, and genuine mineral water.
