At 900 metres on the slopes of Mount Akagi, this thirteen-room inn has offered its Genroku-era Calcium-Magnesium-Sodium Bicarbonate source since 1700 — water that arrives colourless and oxidises to reddish-brown in the bath, depositing yuno-hana as proof of its mineral density, delivered in kakenagashi. Private dining rooms, an Ikyu hospitality score of 4.81, and an intimate room count permit genuine attentiveness, and the kitchen works creditably with local Gunma ingredients across both meals.

The full kaiseki philosophy of the highest-scoring inns is not yet in evidence at this price point, and the wabi-sabi depth of the architectural environment is insufficiently documented to score with confidence. The guest who leaves most satisfied arrives with the bath as the primary purpose; the mineral character of the nigori-yu at Akagi is what will be remembered.
