Hakuchi Onsen Konishi Ryokan

Konishi Ryokan stands beside the Yoshino River in Miyoshi, in a building more than a century old. Writer Fumiko Hayashi’s connection adds a literary layer, while river and mountain views give the modest eight-room house its enduring appeal.

Meals draw on mountain ingredients and the rural cooking of Shikoku. The table is simple and seasonal, fitting the age and scale of the inn rather than reaching for luxury presentation.

A large communal bath uses ordinary heated water, with no outdoor bath or wider onsen circuit. Konishi is best for travelers drawn to an old riverside house, local history, and a quiet regional meal, with bathing kept straightforward.
