Goen no Yado Itoya

Goen no Yado Itoya is a 15-room Meiji-era ryokan in Sado’s Mano district, now run by its seventh generation. Most rooms retain tatami and futon, while three renewed rooms add a quieter Japanese-modern finish and optional beds.

The kitchen combines Sado beef with seasonal seafood, giving the island’s land and sea equal weight. House-roasted coffee adds a personal note beyond the expected ryokan meal.

The hinoki communal bath uses heated deep ocean water drawn from the Sado Strait rather than natural hot-spring water. Itoya suits travellers seeking a small historic inn, a food-led introduction to Sado and the unusual mineral character of seawater bathing. Its appeal is lineage and local ingredients, not an elaborate onsen circuit.
