Akita Onsen Satomi

Akita Onsen Satomi combines a full-size 61-room ryokan with a surprisingly convenient position, about ten minutes by taxi from Akita Station. Rooms range from traditional tatami layouts to Japanese-Western combinations, making the property workable for families and mixed-age groups as well as couples.

The spring first emerged in the district in 1913 and was revived as Satomi no Yu in 1961. Its alkaline sodium chloride and bicarbonate water fills the large indoor and open-air baths; a sauna is also available. The experience is centred on spacious shared bathing rather than private bath facilities.

Dinner is where the stay connects most directly to the prefecture. Seasonal Japanese courses can bring together Akita beef, Hinai chicken, kiritanpo hotpot and Inaniwa udon, with contents changing by plan and month. Satomi is a sensible choice for travellers who want substantial bathing and a broad introduction to Akita dishes without giving up easy access to the city.
